What to look for in a motion sensor alarm

A motion sensor alarm provides a cheap and easy way of adding extra security to your home. Most people overlook these simple devices when searching for an electronic home security solution . It is true that they do not offer coverage as comprehensive as a fully featured home alarm but they only cost a fraction of the price. Individual units can be purchased for less than $50, some are much cheaper.

If you’re not sure what a motion sensor alarm is it’s an all in one device that can detect movement and when it does so sound an alarm. You can mount them on walls and leave them permanently fixed in one spot but one of the great things about these products is their portability. Because they are battery-powered they are not tied to one location so you can use them anywhere you want to protect. Outside a tent or caravan, in a university dorm room or other shared accommodation anywhere you’re looking for some more peace of mind. They don’t have to queue in it and deafening alarm when movement is detected. Some products can be put in ‘chime’ mode so but without the alarming effect.

When looking for one of these devices choose one with a decent range and coverage angle. Anything over 20 feet is good and a 90° coverage angle is okay but 120° is better.
Most are powered by a battery or by a power adapter.
Get one with the remote control, ideally two, so you don’t have to go up to the device to turn it off.
Look for model that has an alarm and a chime sound.

A motion sensor alarm can be used in conjunction with fake security cameras to make it appear as if the cameras are real. By activating the alarm when someone approaches they can be tricked into thinking they have been seen by the camera.
