Vitamin E, Heart Disease Link

July 30, 2010

If you read the news at all, you may be wondering about the vitamin E, heart disease link, and if vitamin E is really a viable supplement to take in your efforts to protect your heart. According to the media, it is a confused mess, as some studies report benefits, and some studies report no benefits. In fact, some studies even report a detrimental effect on your health!

So how to know what is safe or not safe? From the research, it looks as though yes there is indeed a benefit from Vitamin E. Vitamin E and other antioxidants are powerful protectors of our bodies. They fight free radical damage, and help to keep our bodies in tip top shape.

However, it is not recommended to get your vitamin E in synthetic supplement form, as that could indeed be harmful to your health. Until the confusion is straightened out conclusively, I subscribe to the belief that it’s better to be safe than sorry! I feel that most vitamins and supplements on the market today are largely harmful to our health, as most are synthetic.

I do believe many need extra supplements however, which is why I stick to the liquid vitamins you can find in health food stores. Liquid vitamins absorb much better than the synthetic versions you can find in your local grocer, and are made from whole food sources, not synthetic materials that do more harm than good.

With the vitamin E, heart disease controversy, it has been shown that getting your vitamin E from natural sources like a healthy diet does have a beneficial impact on heart health. There are also other vitamins and antioxidants that are important for heart health, for instance the benefits of fish oil on cardiovascular health is huge! What is important to understand is that eating healthy foods, having an active lifestyle, and taking needed supplements are combined to help prevent heart disease for a long healthy life.
