Biography of Tamil Actress Padmapriya
Padmapriya Janakiraman, or Padmapriya as her fans know her, is a star of Tamil movies. She was on February 28, 1980, to V.K. and Vijaya Janakiraman of Delhi, India, and later raised in Punjab. Trained from an early age as a classical dancer, she studied under the celebrated tutelage of Natya Brahma V.S. Ramamurthy, and would go on to dance in several hundred recitals.
She attended Kendriya Vidyalaya in Trimulgherry and graduated from Loyola Academy in Alwal with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. After graduating with an MBA in Finance from Kirloskar Institute in Bangalore, she took a position as risk consultant with GE Capital. It was during this time that Padmapriya won 2001’s Miss Andhra Pradesh pageant, an event that would pave the way for her introduction to acting.
In 2003, Padmapriya debuted in “Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi”, a Telugu film about a blind man named Seenu who financially supports his parents and sister as a street singer. Padmapriya played his sister, Vasanthi, who is very close to her brother and is willing to hide the details of her own rape to ensure her brother receives his eye transplants. Her performance made critics take notice of her, and her fame was quickly on the rise. She later starred in “Kaazcha”, a Malayalam film that won her acclaim and awards for what many people considered to be her breakout role. From there, Padmapriya segued into the Tamil Movie industry with 2005’s “Thavamai Thavamirundhu”. A nomination for Filmfare’s Award for Best Debut Actress followed, which she won.
Since then, the accolades for this Tamil actress have not stopped. Padmapriya is now one of South India’s most famous and sought-after celebrities. She has won several major awards and accumulated over 30 films to her credit, leaving little doubt that there are many more outstanding performances on the horizon.
