More About Heroin Addiction Rehab
The key to getting help for a heroin addiction is most likely going to be checking into a drug rehab for most addicts. In fact, there are other ways to treat heroin or opiate addiction, including:
1) Counseling or therapy.
2) Outpatient groups or meetings.
3) Drug maintenance therapy, such as Methadone or Suboxone treatment.
4) Ultra rapid detox – where they sedate you and then flush your system in a matter of hours rather than days.
And so on. So there are alternatives out there. But for most people, going to a heroin addiction rehab facility that is a simple inpatient place with an accompanying detox area is going to be the best choice.
Why?
A few reasons:
1) Drug rehab is available and easy to access for most people. Now that does not mean that treatment is cheap necessarily, but in many cases it will be covered or funded through the state, depending on a person’s insurance and financial situation. In many cases, Medicaid covers most treatments, and people who have no insurance can sometimes get funded through a grant for rehab. It all depends on the situation. Therefore, it makes sense to call around to local rehabs and see what your options are.
2) Many of the alternatives to heroin rehab are actually more expensive in the long run. For example, taking Suboxone maintenance can cost several hundred dollars per month. Usually cheaper than heroin, but then again, most people who get clean stop hustling for extra money on the side. Taking Suboxone for a long time really adds up, and can easily cost more than a stay in a 28 day rehab.
3) Inpatient rehab is a good starting point for long term recovery potential. Working directly with a counselor in rehab will allow the client to decide on the best aftercare plan that is best suited to their needs. For example, they might end up going on to long term rehab, or they might find that therapy groups are most helpful, and thus follow up with those. So rehab allows this flexibility in designing a long term plan for success.
