With the inventions of airplanes came the ability for man to travel quickly but people do not travel alone though, they are accompanied with their personal belongings. How their personal belongings reach the destination is all part of a baggage handling system.
When checking in at the airport the agent pulls up the traveler’s itinerary on the computer and prints out a tag to attach to each piece of luggage, and then placed on a conveyor belt. This tag has all of the traveler’s information on it, as well as a bar code that contains a ten-digit number. The baggage handling system uses this bar code to specify where to place that bag.
The bag’s first stop is at an automated bar-code scanner. This device is able to scan the bar codes on about 90 percent of bags that pass by. The rest of the bags are routed to another conveyor to be manually scanned.
After this the hundreds of computers will continuously scan the luggage’s movement. At any time it knows exactly where the bag is on the conveyor system.
After the bag has passed through security and rode along the conveyor system so it could be routed to the traveler’s plane, the last stop is a vehicle named DVC. The DVC moves the traveler’s bags quickly to an off-ramp at the gate. Usually at this point bags are loaded manually onto a forklifts which is why airlines hire staff to search for the correct type of forklifts for sale.
Workers called baggage handlers load the the bags onto carts or special containers to get right to the plane. Two different ways a plane can be loaded, either by bulk loaded or container loaded. After reaching the destination the plane is unloaded just as it was loaded by baggage handlers. Sometimes forklift attachments for sale are needed. Bags are loaded onto another set of conveyor belts and sent to baggage claims, where the traveler can stand and claim their bags as it spins slowly on the conveyor system.
