Find Jobs Cleaning Homes

Hopefully, before you begin a career house cleaning, you’ve had a little experience in the janitorial field. It isn’t that you may not know how to clean a home, it’s just, people tend to trust a professional, more than a housewife who has done her own for 20 years.

Prepare yourself for interviews. Just because you might be getting dirty, doesn’t mean you can show up wearing flip flops, and beach comber shorts with a tank top. While you may wear jeans and t-shirts on the job, invest a few dollars in a professional, short apron that slings over your neck, and ties in back. You’ll appreciate the many pockets to tuck your supplies in as you move from floor to floor.

If you’re a female, don’t show up coiffed and wearing make-up, with your long nails freshly painted. People will find it easier to trust you, if you appear clean, and ready to dive in.

Drive a quiet car. People who have money to hire home cleaners, do not want a rusted heap at their curb.

Check the bulletin boards at grocery stores, churches, meeting halls. Think about putting a small advertisement in your local Penny Saver Weekly.

Scour your classifieds (pun intended) for any house cleaning jobs available.  Occasionally, individuals will list their wants, and hire privately. If you apply directly, make sure you find out exactly what is required. Far too many people think it’s not a hard job taking down every pair of curtains in the home, hauling them to the dry cleaners, or, washing them yourself, and rehanging. So think about what you expect to be paid, and what they will be offering you.

Check with every janitor company in the area. They so frequently get calls for one time jobs, and repeating weekly, or monthly. If you work a few of these, you’ll get the training free on the job, with the constructive criticism everyone needs to learn.

Lastly, whether you become privately employed, or through a company, always verbalize to your client, you are looking to stretch yourself to more customers. Word of mouth is a great way to find more job security.
