Keyword research is absolutely essential to your success as an internet marketer. Whether you’re going for search traffic or paid traffic knowing how to optimize your website for search engines and your advertisements for advertising networks will go a long way toward helping you achieve your goals and enable the lifestyle you envision. Keywords are effectively niches and you make any sort of money you need to be able to dominate a niche so that you can attract all the people who are searching for you niche. To do this you need to be able to narrow your vision to only the most profitable keywords in your chosen niche or if you haven’t decided on a niche yet keyword research with allow you select the niches with the most profit potential.
First you’ll want to get some ideas. I typically go to Amazon to find good categories to research. In this example I’m going to choose “cookware”. So the first thing I do is take that word and plug it into Google’s keyword tool. When you do that Google will serve up a list of a related keywords that you can analyze for searches/month, CPC (how much advertisers are paying per click) and any long term trends each keyword has as far as search volume is concerned. Two search terms that look good to tackle are “copper cookware” and “cookware set“. These terms provide a good combination of CPC and monthly searches. The type of website you have will determine the kind of information you’re looking for of course. If you’re aiming to make money with Adsense then you’ll primarily want to look at monthly search volume and CPC however if you’re looking to advertise you may want to pay particular attention to the advertiser competition measurement.
The next step is to analyze the competition for your chosen keyword. Often you’ll find that competition is tough for highly searched keywords than for less searched keywords but you just need to find a happy medium.
