Alternatives to End Snoring

February 11, 2010

Over the course of history, people have tried several methods to stop snoring during the night. This is a condition that is suffered by a great percentage of people without them even knowing that they do! And when they know the snore, it is because someone who heard them sleep has told them. In some cases it has been known to affect personal relationships at some level, due to the annoying sound.

If you are looking for a way to stop snoring, the best thing you can do is know the cause. If you are able to accurately determine the source of the problem, you will be able to quickly find a corresponding cure; if you can’t you’ll maybe have to try a few natural methods to see if they have any effect on your problem. By the way, don’t consider snoring surgery as the first option, there are many alternatives to stop snoring surgery that are better to try first.

Natural cures are those that are not invasive and involve a change in lifestyle, here are some causes of snoring that can be treated with a natural cure: excess weight, sleeping on your back, drinking alcoholic beverages prior to going to sleep and taking medicines that over relax the body during the night. With a corrective change in lifestyle you can change this things and get back to sleeping soundly again.

Losing just a few pounds will help you get rid of excess fat in the throat area, and you can revert to sleeping on your side or tummy by putting a tennis ball in the back pocket of your pajama during the night as a “self-corrective” measure.

Surgery to stop snoring problems will be a choice in some cases, but this alternative is not definitive and may not get rid 100% of snoring. Surgery involves procedures such as Somnoplasty and LAUP, the latter being the most common.
