Male liposuction accounts for about 12% of all lipo surgeries, which means that, as a body-sculpting process, lipo is far more popular among women than among men.
Lipo for men is, however, becoming more and more popular, and a greater knowledge of what the procedure entails would only benefit those who are considering having it done. The most common bodily areas that are subjected to lipo procedures in men include the face and the abdomen – including the love handles – and there is also a growing call for lipo procedures that combat gynecomastia, the abnormal enlargement of the breast area. A prospective male lipo patient who wants to undergo a breast reduction procedure should, however, first determine whether the enlargement is caused by excess fatty tissue or by a hormonal imbalance. If the problem is hormonal, lipo is not an option and a different treatment would apply.
The cost of male liposuction is, on the whole, slightly higher than the cost of corresponding procedures for women. This is due to the fact that a man’s fatty tissue is usually more fibrous – and thus harder to evacuate – than a woman’s, and, as men are larger than women, the procedure would take longer and involve the evacuation of more fat over a larger area.
Despite the fairly high cost, however, lipo is a viable alternative for men who have pockets of excess fatty tissue in areas that do not respond well to exercise like the love handles or beneath the chin. As the incisions made during a lipo surgical procedure are also extremely small, scarring will be kept to a minimum, and this is especially important when procedures are to be performed on the facial area.
Male liposuction may not be common but it does get the job done effectively.
