By virtue of humanity’s collective desire to push clutter out of the way, sight unseen, into closets, attics, and garages, these three areas of the home have become the junk yard of our belongings.
Well, maybe it’s not that bad, but – it is often bad enough!. An entire multi million dollar industry is built up around providing storage closets and other storage products just for us to properly manage and organize these areas of our homes. The cynic in me says it’s unnecessary, but the obsessive compulsive organizer in me screams for more storage products!
Why not stroll with me through my top 5 storage products for organizing the home then, shall we?
1. A Nice and Cheap Portable Closet
Portable closets have a funny name, but don’t let this fool you. They are very handy to have around in any home, guest room, garage, or attic. They are designed to store clothes and they have wheels on them so you can move them about without any problems. However, there’s no reason to limit it to just clothes. Some use them for heavy tools like yard equipment and landscaping tools. Others use them to store hobby materials, like arts and crafts, in the garage, making it easy to wheel the needed supplies in and out of the house when the artistic urge strikes.
2. Big Plastic Storage Bins
These can be used to store items in the bottom of your closet, garage, attic, or anywhere really, without getting in the way and without causing more clutter. They’re cheap, easy to find at any Target, and unless you buy the worst ones possible, they’ll last for quite awhile. Avoid using these in the garage if you live in any area that gets super cold in the winter though, as the plastic will crack!
3. Rubbermaid Shoe Racks
Rubbermaid makes awesome shoe racks. I think they’re one of the most under used storage products for the closet and household around. Wouldn’t it look so much nicer to have an organized rack of shoes by your front door instead of a pile of the family’s collection of shoes?
These three closet storage products can be used in the closet, yes, but also, anywhere in the home, as you can see from the descriptions above. While closets being messy feels like a normal part of life, it’s actually fairly simple to organize them if you just have the right tools. Using some simple and inexpensive storage organizes – like a shoe rack, some storage bins, and a good portable closet – really can make all the difference.
